Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs evened up their best-of-five playoff series against Wichita Wednesday, beating the Wingnuts 4-1 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln ties the American Association North Division series at one game apiece.
Lincoln starter Jim Paduch (1-0) pitched another gem against the Wingnuts, allowing just one run on four hits over eight innings of work. Paduch walked only two and struck out ten, three weeks after he struck out 11 Wingnuts in a regular-season win over Wichita at Haymarket Park. Three of the Wingnuts' four hits came in the third inning, when they scored their only run, but Paduch escaped a bases-loaded jam to keep the game tied and wasn't seriously threatened again.
The Saltdogs scored their first run in the first inning, when Josh Burrus singled and stole second. Albenis Machado bunted Burrus to third, and Phil Hawke brought the run home with an RBI groundout. Lincoln then took the lead for good in the fifth. Burrus hit an infield single to score the go-ahead run, and Machado followed with a two-run single to make the score 4-1.
Chris Thompson struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to record the save, pitching around a leadoff single. Thompson, who tied the American Association regular-season record with thirty saves this season, picked up his first save in a game since August 21.
Burrus ended the night 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Machado went 2-for-3 with two RBI, helping Lincoln pick up its first postseason win since 2006.
The two teams play game three of their best-of-five series Friday night at 7:05 in Wichita. Righty Tim Brown will make the start for Lincoln.
