
Saltdogs Even Series on Wingnuts

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 4-1 to the Lincoln Saltdogs in Game Two of the North Division Series at Haymarket Park on Wednesday night. Lincoln manufactured a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Josh Burrus led off with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Albenis Machado. With the middle infield playing back, Phil Hawke hit a groundball to shortstop that scored Burrus.
Wichita tied it in the third. Joe Muich lef off with a double to right-center field and was sacrificed to thrid by Michael Thompson. Brenan Herrera followed with an RBI single through the left side to make it 1-1. Wichita went on to load the bases in the inning, but Jim Paduch did not allow another run the rest of the night.
Paduch went eight innings, allowing just the one run on four hits, striking out 10 and walking two. Paduch faced the minimum in seven of his eight innings of work.
The Saltdogs moved back in front, scoring three times in the sixth. Gavin Dickey and Shea McFeely opened the inning with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice by Brandon Jones put runners on second and third with one out. Josh Burrus hit an infield single to the right of the mound that scored Dickey from third. After Burrus stole second, Albenis Machado singled down the left field line to score two runs and put Lincoln in front 4-1.
Adam Cowart started for Wichita, allowing four runs on five hits in six innings. Cowart walked only one and struck out four.
Closer Chris Thompson pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first postseason save. Joe D'Alessandro worked two scoreless innings in relief of Adam Cowart, including three strikeouts.
The series now shifts to Wichita for Game Three. Derek Blacksher (11-2, 3.38) goes for the Wingnuts. Lincoln has not announced its starting pitcher.
