Reno Aces News Release
TUCSON, Ariz.-Josh Bell singled, doubled and drove in a run, but the rest of the Aces offense struggled Wednesday night, as Reno dropped a 5-1 decision to the Tucson Padres at Kino Stadium.
Reno-the top statistical offense in the Pacific Coast League-was held to just four hits on the night. The Aces' 14 strikeouts matched a season-high and fell one short of a franchise record.
Aces starter Tyler Skaggs (2-1) suffered his first Triple-A loss, allowing four runs-just one earned-on five hits over five innings of work. Skaggs walked three and struck out one. After his exit, Mike DeMark surrendered a run in two innings, and Joe Paterson worked a scoreless eighth.
The win went to Bees reliever Brad Boxberger (2-2) earned the win after working two scoreless frames. Starter Eric Stults scattered a run on four hits over four innings.
In addition to Bell's two hits, Taylor Harbin and Konrad Schmidt singled to round out the Aces' offense on the evening.
The series comes to a close on Thursday night at Kino Stadium. RHP Charles Brewer (4-6, 5.64 ERA) toes the slab for Reno, while the Padres will counter with RHP Jorge Reyes (6-8, 5.14 ERA).
