Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres struck out 14 hitters Wednesday, setting a season high for strikeouts in a game in their 5-1 win over the Reno Aces. Eric Stults struck out seven in his four-inning injury rehab start, allowing just one run. Brad Boxberger, Miles Mikolas, Josh Spence and Cory Burns all pitched scoreless outings in relief of Stults.
The Padres fell behind 1-0 in the first inning after Josh Bell's RBI double. A half inning later, Beamer Weems cleared the bases with a three-run double to put the Padres ahead. Matt Clark's solo home run in the third made it 4-1 Padres and Andy Parrino's sacrifice fly in the seventh added the final insurance run.
The Padres previous high for pitching strikeouts in a game was 11, which was set multiple times this season. Tucson has now beaten Reno twice in 11 tries this year.
