Zephyrs Win Series in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - The New Orleans Zephyrs pounded out nine runs on 15 hits and defeated the Iowa Cubs 9-1 in front of 8,680 fans at Principal Park. The Zephyrs win the series taking three of four against Iowa.

Gil Velazquez picked up four hits in six at bats and three RBI to lead the Zephyrs offensive attack. The Z's sent ten batters to the plate in the second and in the eighth inning in the game.

New Orleans jumped out to a 5-0 lead against emergency starter Ryan Rowland-Smith. Smith filled in for Casey Coleman who was scratched from his scheduled start. Smith worked four innings and allowed five runs on seven hits in the loss.

Elih Villanueva continued his success since moving into the rotation. He worked six scoreless innings and the Zephyrs have won five of his last six starts.

The Zephyrs added four runs in the eighth inning.
