Padres Send Andrew Cashner To San Antonio

San Antonio - San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner has been sent to San Antonio and will make three starts for the Missions as he transitions from a reliever to a starter.

Cashner, a 25-year old native of Conroe, TX and a TCU alum, made 28 appearances for San Diego. He was 3-3 with a 3.81 ERA (12 ER/28.1 IP) for the Padres with 18 walks and 34 strikeouts.

The 6-6 right-hander will make three starts for San Antonio with one of those coming at Wolff Stadium on Tuesday, June 19 vs. Corpus Christi. His first start will be Wednesday, June 13 at Corpus with a final start on Monday, June 25 at Midland before re-joining San Diego.

Cashner was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the first round (19th pick overall) of the 2008 First Year Player Draft. He was traded to the Padres along with outfielder Kyung-Min Na in exchange for first baseman Anthony Rizzo and pitcher Zach Cates on January 6, 2012.

Cashner has appeared in 88 Major League games with the Cubs and Padres and has gone 5-9 with a 4.15 ERA (43 ER/93.1 IP) while giving up 83 hits and 52 walks and striking out 92.
