Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
Tulsa, OK - The Tulsa Drillers used a seven-run seventh inning to defeat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 10-2 on Tuesday night. The win gives the Drillers a two-game lead in the Texas League's North Division.
The Tulsa Drillers got on the board first for the second straight night against the Naturals. Corey Dickerson led off the bottom of the fourth inning with his first double of the season. Naturals' starter Ethan Hollingsworth then walked Kiel Roling, and threw a wild pitch to put runners on second and third. Drillers' catcher Lars Davis delivered a two-run single to make it a 2-0 game.
Hollingsworth (0-2) went four and two-thirds innings allowing seven hits and two runs, while walking three and striking out three. The start was the first for Hollingsworth since May 27, when he took the mound against the Frisco RoughRiders.
Josh Rutledge delivered a big blow in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Drillers(35-28). Rutledge's 17 double of the season plated three runs and made it 6-0. Angelys Nina followed with his tenth double of the year to score Rutledge, and Nolan Arenado put an exclamation point on the inning with a two-run home run to make it 9-0 in favor of the Drillers.
Former Arkansas Razorback, Nick Schmidt (4-3) turned in the third straight quality start for the Drillers. Schmidt went six shutout innings allowing three hits, while walking just one and striking out eight.
The Naturals (33-30) offense got things going in the top of the seventh inning against Drillers' reliever Joey Willamson. Paulo Orland led-off the inning with a single and after a Rey Navarro single the Naturals had runners at the corners with one out. Nick Van Stratten delivered a pinch-hit RBI groundout to put the team on the board. Ryan Jenkins followed with an RBI single to score Navarro and make it 9-2. Jenkins now has three RBI in his last two games and 12 for the season.
The same two teams will wrap-up their four-game series tomorrow afternoon at 12:05 PM. The Naturals will send Michael Mariot (2-2, 5.08) against the Drillers right-hander Joe Gardner (3-3, 4.71). The game can be heard on ESPN 92.1 The Ticket.
