Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
Missoula MT- The Billings Mustangs would open Sunday's contest opposite the Missoula PaddleHeads in the lead after the top of the first. Casey Harford would bring in a run to highlight a 2-run rally in the inning as Billings would grab the early advantage 2-0. On the other side, Missoula was looking to end their first 6-game homestead with a 5-1 mark to finish off a 3-game sweep of the Mustangs. After a slow start out the gate, Missoula's offense would grab the lead with a 2-out rally in the third to take their first lead. Billing never would find any answers the rest of the way offensively.
Harford's single in the 1st would be the only hit that Billings would tally on the afternoon. On the other side, a pair of 3-run rallies would pace the PaddleHeads attack allowing Missoula to score 9 unanswered runs after falling behind in the first. Zach Penrod would also turn in a solid performance on the hill for Missoula pitching into the 7th. That combination of factors allowed the PaddleHeads to cruise to a 9-2 victory over the Mustangs to wrap up a 3-game sweep of their Northern Division rivals.
The first 8 PaddleHeads batters that came to the plate were retired in order in the first 3 innings. Kamron Willman recorded the first hit for Missoula with 2-outs in the 3rd to open the door for Missoula. After advancing to 2nd, Willman would score on a single up the middle by Patrick Chung to get Missoula on the board. Keaton Greenwalt would then give the PaddleHeads their first lead with a 2-run bomb in the left center field to give the PaddleHeads their first lead 3-2. Greenwalt finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. The 2nd year PaddleHead also currently leads the team in RBIs (20). Chung finished his afternoon at 1-for-3.
The PaddleHeads extended their lead to 4 in the 5th with one swing from Jake Guenther to put the finishing touches on a fabulous weekend at the plate. The Oshkosh native would launch his first home run of the season to bring home Willman, and Greenwalt making the score 6-2. Guenther also tripled, and singled as part of a 3-for-4 performance. Over the 3 game series, Guenther finished 9-for-13 with a homer, triple, 2 doubles, and 10 RBIs.
The production from the PaddleHeads offense was more than enough for southpaw Zach Penrod who used his heavy fastball to tame the Mustangs. Penrod would allow only 1 earned run over 6 â..." innings while striking out 6 in those frames. Cody Thompson, and Mark Simon did the rest in 2 scoreless frames to back up the effort of Penrod. The duo did not allow a single base runner over the final 2 innings. PaddleHeads Starting pitchers also finished 3-0 combined this weekend against Billings with a 3.44 ERA in 18 â..." innings pitched.
After a successful homestand the PaddleHeads (8-4) will hit the road for the 2nd time this season to square off with the Great Falls Voyagers. This will be Missoula's first visit to the Electric City this season as the PaddleHeads open a 3-game series on the road. First pitch from Centene Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. Hear the call on ESPN Missoula 102.9 F.M.
