Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. -- Three one-run games. Two walk-off finishes. One ridiculous and victorious homestand for the Owlz.
The spectacle ensued right away. On Tuesday, down 8-3 in the sixth, the the Owlz throttled three homers to fuel a five-run push over the next two innings. But the birds needed another comeback after allowing two more runs in top nine.
That's exactly what happened.
Henry George jolted four hits on the night. Ed Cuevas and Tyler Johnson pitched in near spotless appearances out of the bullpen.
During Game One of Thursday's double-header, the pitching wasn't so perfect.
Great Falls fired off three homers against the Owlz starter. NoCo countered with a four-run fourth, courtesy of back-to-back jacks by Dave Matthews and Danny Perez, but they couldn't overcome the deficit and lost 8-4 in seven innings.
But that was just the start of the home run heroics.
NoCo clobbered five homers in the 10-7 Game Two win. George juiced a leadoff homer, one of his two in the game. His team homered twice in an inning twice. Not to mention the men on the mound made quite an impact too. Mark Tindall earned the win in his first outing as an Owl, and Michael Slaten recorded his first save of the season.
The pitching prowess continued into Friday. Chase Jessee battled Voyagers' Andrew Garcia, trading donuts through five innings. Jessee ended his outing after seven scoreless innings. Even so, his squad needed to yet another ninth-inning rally to earn a dub.
Perez pulled it off.
Saturday supplied even more drama. Austin Schneider shined again, fighting hard for five innings in his Saturday start. At the dish, six Owlz notched two or more hits, led by Abdel Guadalupe's three-hit evening. Perez poked a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth for the go-ahead run. Slaten saved it and the Owlz won 9-8, giving Keon Taylor his league-leading fourth win of the year in his league-leading seventh appearance.
Sunday's slog through rain delays and equipment issues ended in a 21-14 Voyagers win. NoCo allowed 17 unanswered runs across the final four innings.
Frank Gonzales and the guys hit the road for a nine-game road trip starting in Colorado Springs on Tuesday. A three-game set awaits them there before a journey to Grand Junction starting on Friday June 9.
Follow along on Owlz social media for coverage throughout the road trip. And, as always, you can also watch live games on FloBaseball.
