Frederick, MD - The Frederick Keys sent the much-heralded Dylan Bundy to the mound looking for a series win on Saturday night, but the Carolina Mudcats' Matt Packer was just a little bit better in a 3-1 triumph at Harry Grove Stadium.

Packer (1-0) tossed five scoreless frames, scattered three hits and struck out four for the Mudcats (12-10, 44-48).

Bundy, the Baltimore Orioles' top prospect, matched Packer's five innings, but allowed an unearned run in the fourth. He fanned a career-high eight batters. The Keys drop to 11-11 in the second half, and 38-54 overall.

Jose Flores pitched to three hitters in the ninth to record his 14th save.

After both hurlers breezed through three innings, Bo Greenwell finally broke the ice for Carolina with a double down the right field line. After a passed ball moved Greenwell to third, Jesus Aguilar singled him home on a liner to right, with two outs, for a 1-0 lead.

The Mudcats made it 2-0 in the seventh when Carlos Moncrief drew a lead-off walk. The club managed to move him over to third, and Anthony Gallas beat out a ground ball to third, allowing Moncrief to score.

Moncrief proved to play critical role in the win. He snuck his 11th home run of the season over the center field wall in the top of the ninth to give his team a much-needed 3-0 lead.

Frederick made one last run in the ninth. The first three batters reached to score one, but Flores entered the game and slammed the door.

The Mudcats will try to salvage a four-game split at Frederick on Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. Carolina returns to Five County Stadium on July 16 to host the Winston-Salem Dash. Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
