Dylan Bundy Dominant, But Keys Fall 3-1

FREDERICK, MD - Trailing 3-1 with two runners in scoring position and two outs, the Keys were in position to get their third consecutive comeback victory, yet the Keys' string of exhilarating wins came to an end as Carolina converted the final out to claim victory in front of 7,583 fans at Harry Grove Stadium.

Dylan Bundy made his eighth start as a Key and was dominant once again, allowing just one unearned run to score after striking out eight of the 18 batters he faced. Overall, through five innings of work, Bundy gave up just two hits and walked one as his ERA lowers to 3.11.

The loss drops the Keys to 11-11 in the second half and 38-54 overall.

Facing a 3-0 hole entering the bottom of the ninth inning, the Keys were close to another improbable win. Trent Mummey led off the inning with a single, which was followed by a Ty Kelly walk to put two runners on and nobody out. A base hit from Aaron Baker brought in the Keys first run as they trailed 3-1.

Baker, with two outs, would take second on defensive indifference, putting the tying run in scoring position, but Carolina closer Jose Flores was able to retire Travis Adair and put the Mudcats in the win column.

Carolina jumped on the board first in what was a battle between Bundy and Carolina starter Matt Packer. Neither starter allowed an earned run in the five innings they pitched as both teams struggled mightily just to get baserunners off of each respective starter. Bundy allowed just three baserunners while Packer allowed four.

Yet the Mudcats would get an unearned run off of Bundy in the fourth when Bo Greenwell hit a one-out double to get into scoring position. After advancing to third on a passed ball, Jesus Aguilar went the other way on a pitch to bring in the first run of the game. It would go as unearned to Bundy.

After two insurance runs from Carolina in the seventh and ninth innings off of relievers Oscar Melendez and Matt Bischoff, the Keys would start to attempt another wild comeback, but would fall just short.

The Keys will try and win the four-game series tomorrow night on Faith Night against Carolina as RHP Devin Jones makes his Carolina League debut. He'll take on RHP Danny Salazar (0-2, 2.63).

Gates open at 3:30 PM for a special pregame concert from the Waterboyz, a Christian musical group. Fireworks follow after the game.
