Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Joel Pacheco unloaded a long three-run homer to left in the 5th inning to back the strong starting pitching of Josh Tamba, as Aberdeen beat Batavia, 7-5, Wednesday night at Dwyer Stadium.

With the win, and a Staten Island loss, Aberdeen moves back into first-place, a 1-2 game ahead of the Yankees. Aberdeen, now 17-11, ended a three-game losing streak.

Pedro Silveren came up with a two-out, two-run double in the fourth to give the IronBirds a 2-1 lead and Aberdeen broke the game open an inning later.

The Birds got five runs in the 5th on Chris Vinyard's RBI double, Pacheco's first homer of the year, a 3-run shot, and a Bobby Andrews RBI groundout.

The Birds, who were batting just .175 over the last ten games, broke out on offense with seven runs on 12 hits. It was the most runs scored in a game since Aberdeen got seven on July 5.

Tamba allowed just 1er on 6h over 6 innings and is now 4-0 with an ERA of 2.08.

Batavia's Gus Milner hit a 3-run homer in the 8th to cut Aberdeen's lead to 7-5, but Luis Lebron pitched a 1-2-3 9th to record his league-leading 9th save.
