Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - Coming off a 5-2 opening night victory against Springfield, the Providence Bruins made a series of roster moves this week. One player was recalled to Boston, two were loaned to the team's ECHL affiliate and two players were loaned to Providence.
Danton Heinen was recalled from loan by Boston on October 10, 2017 and skated with them in Wednesday's game in Colorado. On opening night for the P-Bruins, the center contributed to the victory with a power play assist. Last season the 22-year old played eight games for Boston and 64 games with Providence adding 17 more AHL games played in the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs.
This move came after the team had four transactions take place October 9. Goaltender Dan Vladar was reassigned by Boston to their ECHL affiliate the Atlanta Gladiators. The 20-year-old Vladar played in eight games during the 2016-17 year for the Providence Bruins, though spent most of the year in Atlanta. Vladar opened 2017-18 as the P-Bruins backup goaltender and did not appear in their opening night win. Taylor Doherty was also loaned to Atlanta after being a healthy scratch in Providence's opening night win. Last season, the 26-year old played ten games in which he had two assists and two points for the Providence Bruins. He spent most of the year in the ECHL for the Orlando Solar Bears, posting 15 points in 30 games.
Taking his place on the roster is Matt Grzelcyk, who was loaned to the Providence Bruins from Boston. The 23-year old made Boston's opening night roster for the first time in his career this season and returns to the AHL where he played 70 games last season. He posted six goals and 26 assists for 32 points and during the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs, Grzelcyk had three goals and three assists.
Assuming the backup goaltender role on the team is 24-year old Jordan Binnington, who had previously played for the Chicago Wolves. Binnington, property of a St. Louis Blues team without their own AHL affiliate, was reassigned to Providence by St. Louis after four seasons with the Wolves.
Providence will play two home games this weekend, a Friday night faceoff with Springfield and a Saturday night match against Toronto. Puck drop for both games will be 7:05pm
