P-Bruins Force a Game 5 with a 6-3 Win over Falcons

Providence, R.I. - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons tonight at the Dunkin' Donuts Center by a final score of 6-3 in game four to avoid elimination and force a decisive game five. Matt Fraser scored twice and Craig Cunningham, Ryan Spooner, Nick Johnson and Alexander Khokhlachev also scored. Malcolm Subban made 31 saves in his first professional playoff start.

In the first period, the P-Bruins proved they had too much fight left in them to avoid a first-round elimination. The home team struck first at the 7:04 mark when Cunningham managed to slide the puck past Falcons' goaltender Mike McKenna.

It was Cunningham's first goal of the playoffs with David Warsofsky and Zach Trotman assisting on the play. Shortly after, the P-Bruins scored again when Fraser found a loose puck and managed to slip it through the five-hole of McKenna. It was Fraser's second goal of the playoffs with Cunningham and Spooner notching the assists. The Falcons found scored on the power play at the 13:00 mark when Ryan Craig scored his second goal of the playoffs. Carter Camper and Patrick McNeill were awarded the assists. The scoring did not stop there when at the 19:56 mark, Spooner scored on the man- advantage for his second goal of the game. He deflected a clean wrist shot by Joe Morrow into a wide open Falcons net with just 3.7 seconds remaining in the opening frame. The P-Bruins took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, the P-Bruins and Falcons came out swinging. Both teams managed quality scoring opportunities and Subban along with McKenna had to remain strong in net. The Falcons scored on the power play at the 13:53 mark when Darryl Boyce managed to tip in a loose puck. Teammates Camper and McNeill were credited the assists. The P-Bruins continued to gain momentum, however, scoring at the 13:59 mark. Nick Johnson scored his first playoff goal this season off a hefty wrist shot. Alexander Fallstrom made a slick pass to him for the assist. The goal gave the P-Bruins a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.

In the third period, the P-Bruins continued their strong offensive attack. At the 4:45 mark, Fraser notched his second goal of the game and third of this season's playoffs. Spooner made a crisp pass to Fraser who took a wrist shot that sailed past McKenna for the 5-2 lead. The Falcons made a goaltending change immediately following the goal with McKenna being replaced by Anton Forsberg. The P-Bruins extended their lead at the 8:30 mark when Khokhlachev scored the first playoff goal of his career on the backdoor. Johnson and Seth Griffith earned the assists. The P-Bruins went 3-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-7 on the penalty kill. Subban blocked 31 of 34 shots. Springfield's McKenna stopped 23 shots while Forsberg made 9 saves.

The P-Bruins will travel to Springfield for the series deciding game 5 on Saturday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m. If the P-Bruins advance to the Eastern Conference semi-finals the schedule and ticket information will be release accordingly.
