P-Bruins Fall To Pirates 5-3

Providence, RI - The first place Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 5-3 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Mikko Lehtonen, Jeremy Reich and Martins Karsums. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday, January 18 versus the Rochester Americans at 4:05 p.m. for LukOil Thunderstick Night.

The P-Bruins began the scoring at the 1:41 mark of the opening period. Andrew Bodnarchuk held the puck along the boards behind his net and fed the puck to Lehtonen. He carried it up the ice and scored his eleventh goal of the season off a shot from the top of the right face off circle. Portland tied the game at one at the 4:39 mark. Nathan Gerbe netted his 18th goal of the season with Matt MacDonald and Marek Zagrapan getting the assists. The Pirates took their first lead of the game at the 8:02 mark. Zach Tarkir tallied his third goal of the season with Mark Mancari and Marc-Andre Gragnani grabbing the assists. Providence tied the game at two at the 9:35 mark. Jeff Penner sent the puck down the boards for Brad Marchand behind the net. He found Reich in the left face off circle who scored his 12th goal of the season. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 17:28 mark. Reich left the puck for Marchand who sent it into the slot for Karsums. Karsums scored his 17th goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a 3-2 advantage into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period, the Pirates tied the game at three at the 7:38 mark of the third period. Gerbe netted his second goal of the game with Gragnani recording the lone assist. The Pirates took the lead at the 11:41 mark, while on the power play. Zagrapan tallied his 13th goal of the season with Mancari and Gragnani picking up the assists. The Pirates finished off the scoring at the 15:13 mark. Felix Schutz scored his seventh goal of the season with Aaron Slattengren and Trent Campbell getting the assists. Portland went on to the 5-3 victory.

Tuukka Rask stopped 18 of 23 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Jhonas Enroth made 37 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 0-for-2 on the power play and 0-for-1 on the penalty kill.
