
B-Sens Outlast Penguins in High-Scoring Contest

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators tallied a season-high six goals and netminder Martin Gerber turned away 43 shots to lead Binghamton past division rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by a 6-4 final on Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The B-Sens got the scoring started late in the first period while on the power play. Peter Regin scored his first goal of the night off a rebound which Ryan Shannon fired from the blue line. Shannon picked up his fourth assist in two games. Hamel also assisted on the play giving him a five-game point streak (5-4).
Momentum switched to the Penguins in the second period when Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scored two goals in under two minutes. Jeff Taffe scored a short-handed goal and Luca Caputi tallied his 11th goal of the season on a two-on-one break.
Binghamton tilted the pendulum late in the second period when the B-Sens returned the favor scoring two goals in just over two minutes. Ilya Zubov poked in his 11th goal of the season with a 5-on-3 advantage after Danny Bois put the puck on net.
The B-Sens took a 3-2 lead when Peter Regin scored his second goal of the game and his eighth of the season when he slapped a rebound in off of a Zubov shot. The assist was Zubov's second point of the game and Matt Carkner also tallied his 11th assist of the season.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton tied the game up at the end of the second period when Tommy Goebel put a rebound shot past Gerber.
Binghamton took a 4-3 lead in the third period when Josh Hennessy put his ninth goal of the season home on a 2-on-1 break. Zubov picked up a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton turnover in the neutral zone and started the break earning his 16th assist of the season. Danny Bois collected his second helper of the night to tie his career high.
The Penguins again tied the game up just over two minutes later off a turnover in the B-Sens end. Ryan Stone scored his ninth goal and Jeff Taffe picked up his 27th assist and his 43rd point of the season.
Binghamton grabbed the lead for the final time towards the end of the third period when Shawn Weller scored his second goal of the season with a wrister from the left point. Neil Petruic tallied his third assist and Zack Smith picked up his first assist of the game.
Denis Hamel capped the scoring with a late empty-net goal. Zack Smith picked up his second assist of the game and 16th of the season. Greg Mauldin collected the second assist to extend his point streak to five games (3-4).
