
P-Bruins Fall In Shootout To Phantoms 4-3

Philadelphia, PA - The Providence Bruins fell to the Philadelphia Phantoms in a shootout 4-3 Saturday evening at the Wachovia Spectrum. The P-Bruins got their goals in regulation from Wacey Rabbit, Jordan Knackstedt and Brad Marchand. In the shootout, Martin St. Pierre and Jeremy Reich scored for Providence. The first place P-Bruins continue their eight game road trip Sunday against the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center at 5:05 p.m.
In the opening period, the Phantoms took a 1-0 lead at the 5:05 mark. Patrick Maroon netted his 21st goal of the season, while David Laliberte and Jonathan Matsumoto recorded the assists. Providence tied the game at one at the 5:39 mark. Adam McQuaid took a shot from the right point and the puck was deflected to Reich along the right boards. He found Rabbit in front of the net, who tallied his 11th goal of the season. Philadelphia retook the lead at the 12:40 mark. Jonathon Kalinski scored his fourth goal of the season, with Sean Curry grabbing the lone assist. The P-Bruins tied the game at the 15:08 mark. Matt Marquardt sent the puck to the right point for Johnny Boychuk, who skated the puck down the boards and tossed the puck towards the net. Knackstedt was there to tip it in for his ninth goal of the season. The game went into the first intermission tied at two.
After a scoreless second period, Philadelphia scored a power play goal at the 1:03 mark to take a 3-2 lead. Matsumoto grabbed his 21st goal of the season, with Maroon and Lasse Kukkonen getting the assists. Providence tied the game at three at the 8:08 mark. Boychuk put the puck towards the net and Marchand picked it up and scored his 15th goal of the season. The game went into overtime tied at three.
After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout. In round one, St. Pierre scored to give the P-Bruins the advantage, but it was quickly tied up by a goal from Matsumoto. After Reich put the P-Bruins ahead with a goal in round three Laliberte tied the shootout in round four. After no one scored in the next three rounds, the Phantoms took the lead for good in round eight with a goal from Claude Giroux. Philadelphia went on to the 4-3 shootout victory.
Kevin Regan stopped 36 of 39 shots in regulation and 5 of 8 in the shootout for the P-Bruins, while Jean-Sebastien Aubin made 31 saves in regulation and 6 of 8 in the shootout for the Phantoms. The P-Bruins were 0-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
