P-Bruins defeat Pirates 7-1

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 7-1 Saturday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Matt Hendricks, Nate Thompson, Martins Karsums, T.J. Trevelyan, Wacey Rabbit and two goals from Chris Collins. The 49-16-3-4 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Sunday against the Worcester Sharks at the Dunkin' Donuts Center at 4:05 p.m. Providence remains six points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 3:39 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Sean Curry took a shot from the blue line and Trevelyan tipped it in front of the net. The puck went to Hendricks and he scored his 22nd goal of the season. Providence went into the first intermission leading 1-0.

Portland tied the game at one at the 5:41 mark of the second period. Stephen Dixon netted his 15th goal of the season, while Simon Ferguson and Darryl Bootland had the assists. Providence quickly retook the lead at the 6:25 mark. Thompson sent the puck to Collins and he dropped it off to Rabbit in the right face off circle. He sent the puck back to Collins in the slot, who scored his 20th goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a two goal advantage at the 13:33 mark, while shorthanded. Dwayne Zinger chipped the puck out of his own zone to Collins, who dished the puck off to Thompson. He scored his 17th goal of the season from the left face off circle. Providence went into the second intermission leading 3-1.

In the third period, the P-Bruins took a three goal advantage at the 9:37 mark. Brett Skinner passed the puck to Matt Hunwick in his own zone and Hunwick fired the puck down the ice to Collins cutting down the right wing. He took a shot from the right face off circle and sent the puck into the back of the net for his 21st goal of the season. Providence scored again at the 12:22 mark, while on the power play. Karsums tallied his 17th goal of the season and Skinner and Curry had the assists. The P-Bruins scored two more goals late in the game. At the 18:36 mark, Trevelyan scored his 16th goal of the season, with Aaron Slattengren and Hendricks grabbing the assists. At the 19:12 mark, Rabbit netted his ninth goal of the season, while Collins and Jonathan Sigalet had the assists. The P-Bruins went on to the 7-1 victory.

Tuukka Rask stopped all eleven shots he faced and Jordan Sigalet stopped 10 of 11 shots for the P-Bruins, while Mike McKenna made 25 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins went 2-for-6 on the power play and 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.
