Bridgeport Islanders News Release

The Sound Tigers dominated the first period of play but three goals in the middle frame by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins helped put an end to their three-game winning streak as the Penguins beat the Sound Tigers, 4-2.

Ben Walter opened the scoring just a minute and 40 seconds into the opening period when he scored his 18th goal of the season. Drew Fata fed a pass to his defense partner, Scott Ford at the right point where he sent a shot on goal. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton starting goalie, John Curry made the first save but Walter was there to grab the rebound, swiftly pull the puck around Curry and slide it into the net for the 1-0 lead. Jamie Fraser would make it 2-0 in favor of the Sound Tigers, while the team was on the power-play, with just under two minutes to play in the first. Walter fed a nice back-door pass to Fraser at the left post for the easy tap in tally. Jeff Tambellini also had an assist on Fraser's seventh goal of the season.

The tides turned in the second period as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton rattled off three straight goals, taking the 3-2 lead into the third period. Nathan Smith had two of the three markers, his 19th and 20th of the season. Alex Goligoski scored what would become the game-winner at the 18:32 mark, his ninth of the season off assists from Kurtis McLean and Tim Brent.

Connor James would seal the victory for the Penguins in the third when he converted a 3-on-1 opportunity for his ninth tally of the season. Tim Wallace had the lone helper on the goal, closing out the scoring at 4-2.

Morrison suffered the loss while stopping 26 of the 30 shots fired at him tonight. Curry had 31 saves on 33 shots. The Sound Tigers were 1-for-3 on the man-advantage and were perfect on the penalty kill going 4-for-4.

Tomorrow evening, the Sound Tigers will close out their three-game home-stand against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
