Providence Bruins News Release
Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 6-3 Tuesday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena in the first game of this best-of-seven Atlantic Division Final Playoff series. The P-Bruins got goals from T.J. Trevelyan, Brian White, Nate DiCasmirro, Sean Bentivoglio and two goals from Pascal Pelletier.
The P-Bruins opened up the scoring at the 4:44 mark of the first period. Pelletier grabbed the puck in the Manchester end and took a shot, in which the puck went off Monarchs net minder Jason LaBarbera and into the net. Providence took a 2-0 advantage into the first intermission after scoring at the 8:32 mark. The P-Bruins caused a turnover in the Monarchs zone and Trevelyan banked the puck off the crossbar and into the net. David Krejci and Sean Bentivoglio recorded the assists.
In the second period, Manchester cut the P-Bruins lead in half at the 8:56 mark. Peter Harrold took a shot from the right point and the puck deflected off a P-Bruins body in front of the crease and into the net. T.J. Kemp and Marty Murray picked up the assists. Providence retook a two goal lead at the 11:03 mark. Krejci found Pelletier backdoor and he shot the puck between the post and LaBarbera. Ryan Glenn had the second assist. Towards the end of the second period the Monarchs scored to send the game into the second intermission with the P-Bruins leading 3-2. At the 18:28 mark, Patrick O'Sullivan slid the puck between the legs of P-Bruins goaltender Hannu Toivonen and into the net. Matt Ryan and Tim Jackman tallied the assists.
In the third period Manchester tied the game at three on a power play goal from Kemp at the 4:42. Gabe Gauthier and Matt Moulson recorded the assists. Only 15 seconds later, the P-Bruins had an odd man rush and White tallied his first goal of the post season with Bentivoglio and Dwayne Zinger earning the assists. Less than three minutes later at the 7:53 mark, Krejci made a pass from behind the net to DiCasmirro who put the puck into the Monarchs net, chasing LaBarbera from the game. Jeff Hoggan had the second assist. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring with an empty net power play goal from Bentivoglio. Ben Walter and Sean Curry grabbed the assists. Providence leads the best-of-seven series 1-0.
