Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars announced this evening that their National Hockey League affiliate, the Dallas Stars, have signed Right Wing Krys Barch to a one-year NHL contract.
Recalled by the Dallas Stars back on January 14th, Barch made his NHL debut on January 15th against the Los Angeles Kings. Overall, the 26-year-old appeared in 26 games for the Dallas Stars, registering three goals, two assists and 107 penalty minutes: 26(3/2/5)107.
"Krys is a hard-nosed player who plays with an edge and did a good job for our hockey club last season," commented Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong. "We will look for him to continue to improve his game and make impacts for our organization next year."
The six-year professional skated in 31 games for Iowa this season, posting three goals and five assists: 31(3/5/8). He led Iowa with 110 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 215-pound Hamilton, Ontario native was signed by Dallas as a Free Agent on July 18th, 2006.
Reached by phone in Dallas, Barch was "appreciative of the coaching staff back in Des Moines and all the Iowa Stars fans and wishes the team and fans continued Calder Cup Playoff success against the Chicago Wolves". Today's news comes just two weeks after the birth of the couple's son Hayden.
He skated in 43 games for Iowa in 2005-06, recording seven goals and six assists for 13 points, to go along with a team-high 129 penalty minutes. He also appeared in all seven of Iowa's Calder Cup Playoff games, notching an assist and 27 penalty minutes.
