
P-Bruins Defeat Monarchs 5-4

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 5-4 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Jamie Arniel, Kirk MacDonald, Andrew Bodnarchuk and two goals from Adam McQuaid. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Kid's Hat Night against the Worcester Sharks.
The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead at the 4:26 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Brandon Segal tallied his sixth goal of the season, with Thomas Hickey and David Kolomatis recording the assists. Manchester went ahead 2-0 at the 6:45 mark, while on the power play. Bud Holloway netted his sixth goal of the season, with Segal and Alec Martinez picking up the assists. The Monarchs scored their third power play goal of the game at the 10:38 mark. Corey Elkins scored his sixth goal of the season, while Segal and Kolomatis grabbed the assists. Providence cut the lead to two at the 10:59 mark. Mikko Lehtonen held the puck and left it for Brad Marchand in the slot. He put a shot on goal and Arniel redirected the puck into the net for his sixth goal of the season. Manchester led 3-1 heading into the first intermission.
The P-Bruins cut the lead to one at the 2:18 mark of the second period. Guillaume Lefebvre had the puck along the boards and sent it into the slot for Craig Weller. He tipped it to McQuaid at the blue line, who blasted the puck into the back of the net for his second goal of the season. The Monarchs retook a two goal lead at the 4:21 mark, while shorthanded. Joe Piskula tallied his second goal of the season, with Marc-Andre Cliche and Drew Bagnall getting the assists. Manchester led going into the second intermission 4-2.
In the third period, the P-Bruins pulled back within a goal at the 7:43 mark. Drew Larman held the puck in the corner and left it halfway up the boards for Lefebvre. He found McQuaid at the blue line, who netted his second goal of the game and third goal of the season. Providence tied the game at four at the 8:34 mark. Arniel carried the puck into the zone and left it behind the net for Marchand. He passed it into the slot for MacDonald, who scored his fifth goal of the season. The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 19:12 mark. McQuaid cleared the puck out of his own zone to Marchand in the neutral zone. He skated it down the ice before passing it to Bodnarchuk in the left face off circle. He shot the puck into the net for his first goal of the season, the game winner. Providence went on to the 5-4 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 21 of 25 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jonathan Bernier made 35 saves for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins were 0-for-6 on the power play and 3-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins head to the Giant Center Wednesday to take on the Hershey Bears at 7:00 p.m., before returning to The Dunk Friday for Kid's Hat Night against the Sharks at 7:05 p.m. The P-Bruins wrap up the week Saturday at the XL Center against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets for the 2009-10 season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
