Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Aeros (10-10-1-0) took its first overtime loss of the season falling to the Milwaukee Admirals (8-6-1-2) 2-1 Sunday in front of 4,018 at Toyota Center. RW Petr Kalus scored the lone goal for Houston while G Anton Khudobin (8-4-0) had 20 saves in the loss. Forwards Ryan Jones and Cal O'Reilly netted the goals for Milwaukee and G Chet Pickard (3-2-0) recorded his second win in as many games against the Aeros tallying 25 saves in the effort.
The Admirals jumped ahead early in the first period off the stick of Jones at 4:19. C Dave Scatchard fired the initial shot on net and Jones beat Khudobin glove-side off the rebound; O'Reilly was credited with the second assist. The Aeros killed off three Milwaukee power plays in the period while going 0-for-2 on the man advantage.
"We had, I thought, our worst first period of the year," said Aeros head coach Kevin Constantine. "We were just asleep for whatever reason. I thought Khudobin kept us in the game in the first period; otherwise it would have been 3-0."
It appeared neither team would light the lamp in the middle frame until Kalus deflected home a shot by D Maxim Noreau from the point with two seconds remaining to knot the game at one goal apiece. Houston held the Admirals to a season low two shots on goal in the period.
After a scoreless third period, the game headed to overtime where the Admirals would close it out 2:39 into the extra frame. O'Reilly batted home the game-winner in a scrum in front of the Houston net; C Wacey Rabbit would get credited with the helper.
"I think you can look at our team and see a real pattern. If you take out the first period tonight, you can see consistent work ethic and good structure," Constantine said. "If we can find a way to score to go along with everything else well we do, we'll be in good shape."
The Aeros PPG streak ends at six games as they go 0-for-5 on the man advantage while outshooting Milwaukee 26-22. Houston's top ranked penalty kill went a perfect 3-for-3 on the night. The Aeros officially announced 97 dogs and a pony at the 2nd Annual Chilly's Pet Pals game.
The Aeros begin a three-game road trip with a stop in Hamilton, ON to face the Bulldogs, 6:30 PM CST at Copps Coliseum. The game can be heard on 1070 AM KNTH as well as ahllive.com. Follow the in-game blog on zamchron.com.
