Chicago Wolves News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves took a 2-1 third-period lead with a goal from Chicago native Tim Stapleton, and held on to earn their fifth straight win on home ice, 3-1, over the Texas Stars at the Allstate Arena Sunday night.
With 14:38 left to play, center Jason Krog worked the puck out from behind the goal and Johnny Pohl slipped it to Stapleton, who was waiting in the right face-off circle to crank a shot past Stars goaltender Brent Krahn for the eventual game winner.
Wolves goaltender Drew MacIntyre (6-6-0) thwarted 14 shots to earn the win, marking the fourth straight outing in which Chicago has held opponents to one goal.
Chicago (10-8-0-1), which was skating in its third game in three days, has collected at least one point in their last six games at the Allstate Arena (5-0-0-1).
"I think it is the best overall team game we have played in a while," said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever. "We played a real solid game against a very good hockey team."
Texas (14-4-2-2) took a 1-0 lead, 7:56 into the game when left wing Francis Wathier fired a blast straight down the slot, beating MacIntyre.
Right wing Anthony Stewart evened the score, 1-1, 7:23 into the second frame. Defenseman Mike Vernace took a long shot through traffic, which made its way to the front of the crease, where Stewart tipped it out of the air and past Krahn.
The Stars pulled Krahn with just under three minutes remaining in the game, but left wing Brett Sterling deposited the puck in the empty net to round out scoring at 3-1.
Krahn (10-2-0) turned aside 22 shots for the Stars in the loss, which snapped a 10-game winning streak for the netminder.
The Wolves continue their five-game homestand when they host the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Allstate Arena on Wed., Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
