
P-Bruins Defeat Monarchs 3-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Vladimir Sobotka and two goals from Mikko Lehtonen. The P-Bruins finish the regular season with three road games, before beginning the Calder Cup Playoffs at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Wednesday, April 15 at 7:05 p.m.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 3:40 mark of the opening period, while on a 5-on-3 power play. Martin St. Pierre held the puck in the right face off circle and sent it in front of the crease to Sobotka. He tipped the puck to Lehtonen backdoor who tallied his 26th goal of the season. Manchester tied the game at one at the 11:05 mark. Trevor Lewis netted his 18th goal of the season, while Marty Murray and Joe Piskula recorded the assists. The game went into the first intermission tied at one.
Providence retook the lead at the 15:56 mark of the second period. Ryan Stokes sent the puck through the neutral zone to Dan Ryder. He tipped the puck to Lehtonen, who scored from the right face off circle. It was his second goal of the game and 27th on the season. The P-Bruins went into the second intermission leading 2-1.
Manchester once again battled back to tie the game, this time at the 5:15 mark of the third period. Matt Moulson scored his 19th goal of the season, while Lewis and Murray picked up the assists. The P-Bruins took the lead for good at the 8:45 mark of the third period. Zach Hamill picked up the puck in his own end and found Brad Marchand in the neutral zone. He passed the puck off to Sobotka, who slipped the puck through the five hole of Monarchs goaltender Daniel Taylor and into the net for his 19th goal of the season. The P-Bruins went onto the 3-2 victory.
Kevin Nastiuk stopped 26 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Taylor made 30 saves for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins were 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins wrap up the regular season with three games on the road. Wednesday the P-Bruins travel to the Tsongas Arena to take on the Lowell Devils at 7:00 p.m. Friday Providence heads to the Cumberland County Civic Center to face the Portland Pirates at 7:00 p.m. before finishing the regular season Saturday with a trip to the DCU Center against the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. The P-Bruins begin the Calder Cup Playoffs at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Wednesday, April 15 at 7:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
