Albany Devils News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Lowell Devils used a 3-for-8 performance on the man-advantage to gather a 4-3 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday afternoon at the XL Center. Jon DiSalvatore notched a goal and an assist, but the Devils' playoff hopes came to end with a Portland victory today over Springfield.
With the game tied, 1-1, in the middle period, the special teams units for both squads would set the pace the rest of the way. Lowell went up by one at 9:21 thanks to their first power play goal in four games. After a loose puck ended up in front of the Hartford net, the Devils flooded the crease and Rosario Ruggeri punched in his second goal of the year.
The Wolf Pack responded 1:22 later on a 5-on-4 advantage as Corey Potter released a shot from the blueline that found space over a sprawled-out Jeff Frazee. Pascal Rheaume then gave the Devils their third lead of the game, deflecting DiSalvatore's wrist shot through the legs of Matt Zaba for a power play marker at 14:51.
DiSalvatore then added to Lowell's cushion at 3:51 of the final period with his team's third tally on the man-advantage, driving home a slapshot from between the hashmarks to make it 4-2.
The Devils looked to get some more breathing room with a five-minute major power play midway through the third, but instead found their lead cut in half on Jordan Owens' shorthanded tally. Lowell would hold on for the victory as Frazee made 30 saves for his 27th win of the season.
Vladimir Zharkov drew first blood 2:27 after the opening face-off, intercepting a pass at the Hartford blueline and blasting a snapshot through Zaba. The unassisted goal was Zharkov's 11th of the season.
Hartford would knot the score at 4:24 of the second when Patrick Rismiller pulled wide to the near circle of Lowell zone and flicked a sneaky backhand shot over the shoulder of Frazee.
The Lowell Devils play the Providence Bruins at the Tsongas Arena on Wednesday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m. Listen as Ryan Johnston brings you the live action on 980AM-WCAP or at ahllive.com.
