
P-Bruins announce 2002-03 schedule

The Providence Bruins announced today their schedule for the upcoming 2002-03 season, the 11th in franchise history. The Black and Gold, under the direction of new head coach Mike Sullivan, will play an 80-game schedule, with all games against Eastern Conference rivals. The season opens up with two road games against the Saint John Flames on Friday and Saturday, October 11th and 12th. The Bruins' home opener is Friday, October 18th at 7:05 p.m. against the Springfield Falcons.
The Providence Bruins will face off against 12 different opponents during the 2002-03 regular season. The Black and Gold will play half its schedule against its four North Division rivals. They will battle the Lowell Lock Monsters, Manchester Monarchs, Portland Pirates and Worcester IceCats 10 times apiece. In addition, the P-Bruins will take on two of their traditional rivals, the East Division's Hartford Wolf Pack and Springfield Falcons, 10 times, as well. The Bruins will also meet two teams for the first time. They will take on the Canadian Division's Manitoba Moose four times, and the expansion Binghamton Senators twice.
The Bruins' 40-game home schedule features 37 weekend dates. Providence will play 21 games on Friday night, 15 games on Sunday afternoon and one Saturday night contest. In addition, two games will be played on Wednesday night and one on a Tuesday night. One Wednesday night game will be played on Thanksgiving Eve, November 27th, at 7:05 p.m. against the Portland Pirates. The Tuesday night contest pits the Bruins against the Hartford Wolf Pack on New Year's Eve, December 31st, at 4:05 p.m.
The busiest month of the season for Providence will be November, when the team plays 15 games, including nine on home ice. The months of December and March will see the Black and Gold play a total of 14 games apiece. The Bruins will play a season-high 10 home games during the month of December.
