
Rivermen Sign Brooks and Booth

Head Coach Jason Christie announced on Thursday the signing of two more players to the 2002-03 Peoria Rivermen roster. Free agents Derek Booth and Brendan Brooks join Tyler Rennette, Duane Derksen, Kevin Malcolm, Dean Tiltgen and Ryan Finnerty as early signees.
Derek Booth, 32, played for the ECHL champion Toledo franchise in 1992-93, and was ECHL Defenseman of the Year. He then played five seasons in Europe, before returning to Toledo in 2000-2001 to score 12 goals in 67 games. He sat out last season in a contract dispute with the Toledo Storm. Booth has played with former Rivermen Rene Chapdelaine and David Goverde at IHL Phoenix in 1991-92, and with Peoria Kelly Cup hero Duane Derksen at AHL Rochester in 1993-94. The 11-year pro has played 547 games with 10 teams in the IHL, AHL, ECHL, UHL, WPHL and Europe. He has 51 goals in 252 ECHL games which includes playoff games.
Brandon Brooks, 23, spent time with AHL Manchester and ECHL Reading and Macon last season, and in just 29 games with Reading notched 13 goals and added 11 assists. The 5-foot-9, 185-pounder from St. Catherines, Ontario, played 65 games for ECHL Dayton in 2000-2001, scoring 29 goals and adding 18 assists. He played for IHL Cincinnati and AHL Lowell and Manchester.
