Flames Sign Three to Contracts

Saint John, NB – The Saint John Flames announced today the signing of 25-year-old left wing Ryan Shmyr, 21-year-old defenceman Jay Langager and 20-year-old centre Brent Kelly to American Hockey League contracts.

Shmyr split the 2001-02 between the Rochester Americans of the AHL and the Johnstown Chiefs of the East Coast Hockey League. The 6’6”, 230 lb native of Fairview, Alberta recorded 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) and 170 penalty minutes in 34 contests with Rochester and 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) and 174 penalty minutes in 29 games with Johnstown.

Langager split the 2001-02 between the AHL Champion Chicago Wolves and the ECHL Champion Greenville Grrrowl. The 6’1”, 190 lb native of Loreburn, Saskatchewan recorded 4 penalty minutes in 5 games with Chicago and 21 points (4 goals, 17 assists) and 42 penalty minutes in 62 games with Greenville.

Kelly, a 6’1”, 190 lb native of Cobourg, Ontario, skated with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds during 2001-02 and led the club in scoring with 70 points (38 goals, 32 assists) and 18 penalty minutes in 67 games.

The 2002-03 season marks the Saint John FlamesÂ’ tenth as a member of the AHL and as the primary development organization of the National Hockey LeagueÂ’s Calgary Flames.
