Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
The Mustangs rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth for their second come from behind win in as many nights Friday at Cobb Field.
Trailing 4-2, Billings led off the inning with a double and single, putting runners at second and third. Ryan Brown then lifted a fly ball to deep right for a successful sacrifice. Then, Dennis Phipps singled in the tying run.
Phipps would get to second on a groundout by the next Mustang hitter, Jake Long. The number nine man in the order, Angel Colon, lined a single to right to give the home squad their first lead of the game, 5-4.
Like yesterday, the Owlz jumped out in front in the top of the first. Ryan Mount led off with a single and then Peter Bourjos doubled to put both men in scoring position. Chris Pettit then reached on an error, scoring Mount. With Bourjos on third and Pettit on first, Luis Rivera then bounced into a 6-4-3 double play. Bourjos did score, however, giving the Owlz two runs on the inning.
Billings came right back in the bottom half, getting two runs off Owlz starter Sean O'Sullivan.
O'Sullivan would then settle down, tossing five innings, giving up just the two runs on four hits.
He left the game standing to be the winner because Orem got two more runs in the top of the third to take a 4-2 advantage. However, Billings had other plans when they mounted their sixth inning rally.
Orem's best chance to even the score came in the ninth. The Owlz had runners on first and second with two outs following a Brooks Shankle single and an error that allowed Bourjos to reach. However, Mustang reliever James Morris induced a game-ending pop up off the bat of Chris Pettit.
Billings has won the first three games of the series. The fourth and final game is tomorrow night at 7:05 P.M.
