Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

OREM - The Owlz ended their two-game skid, beating the Idaho Falls Chukars 7-5 on Sunday night.

Johnny Morell opened things up at the mound for the Owlz. Idaho Falls got their first run off of Morell in the opening inning. Cam Williams prevented the Chukars from getting another run by handling a line drive, then rifling it to catcher Erven Roper.

Roper got the Owlz their first run and tied the game up at 1-1 after a wild pitch from Jon Heasley.

The Chukars took the lead right back, getting three more runs in third. After giving up the runs, the Owlz replaced Morell with Nick Jobst.

Both teams had some trouble getting anymore runs for the next couple innings. The Owlz broke out in the fifth inning going for three runs. Kevin Maitan got the first run, then designated hitter Francisco Del Valle hit a two-run homer to tie the game at four.

Tyler Smith came in for the Owlz in the seventh inning. For the game, Smith recorded three strikeouts and gave up no runs.

In the bottom of the seventh, Nonie Williams hit a triple to deep center field. With two outs and the bases loaded, Kiki Menendez hit a two-run RBI single up center field to give the Owlz a 6-4 lead.

Orem got one more run from Cam Williams in the eighth before bringing in Kyle Tyler to finish the game. Tyler gave up a home run on his first pitch, but the Owlz came up clutch after that, giving the Chukars three straight outs to close out the game.

The Owlz will be on the road until July 18. Orem will take on Great Falls at 7:05 p.m. MST at the Home of the Owlz. For tickets visit oremowlz.com or call 801-377-2255.
