Late Runs Propel Voyagers in Missoula

Missoula, MT - The Voyagers banged out a season-high 17 base hits in a 7-5 series-opening victory over Missoula Saturday night at Ogren Park-Allegiance Field.

With the win, Great Falls (13-10) moved into sole possession of first place in the Pioneer League North. It was the first win for the Voyagers in Missoula this season. Great Falls is now 5-4 against the Osprey (12-11) in the overall season series.

The Voyagers opened the scoring with a two-run 3rd. Ian Dawkins reached base with a one-out infield single. Dawkins scored the first run on a Lenyn Sosa triple off the wall in deep right. Logan Sowers made it 2-0 with an RBI single into center against a drawn-in infield.

Missoula sent eight men to the plate in the 4th and scored four times to take the lead. Cesar Garcia slammed a leadoff triple that carried to the wall in left-center. Alex King brought Garcia home with an RBI single to right. After Jesus Munoz singled, David Sanchez tied the game with an RBI single lined softly into center. With one out, Jesus Marriaga doubled home the go-ahead run. Eddie Hernandez made it 4-2 with a run-scoring single to left.

Great Falls quickly answered to tie the game with two in the 5th. Ian Dawkins led off with a base hit to right that ricocheted off the first baseman's glove. Dawkins moved to second on a balk. Lenyn Sosa drove him in with a line drive single to right. Later in the inning, Corey Zangari lined a single to center. A two-out RBI double by Alex Destino into left-center made it 4-4.

The Voyagers took a 5-4 lead with a single mark in the 6th. Amado Nunez led off the frame with a base hit to left. Gunnar Troutwine singled to right. Ramon Beltre grounded into a double play that allowed Nunez to score from third. A two-out rally by the Osprey in the 7th leveled it at 5-5. Zac Almond and Zack Shannon both singled. Cesar Garcia tied the game with an RBI double punched into the left field corner.

Great Falls forged ahead with a run in each of the final two innings to take control. In the 8th, Romy Gonzalez led off with a walk. A passed ball pushed Gonzalez to second. Amado Nunez coaxed a walk. Gonzalez took third on another passed ball. Ramon Beltre gave the Voyagers the lead for good with an RBI single lined into left. Logan Sowers finished the scoring in the 9th with a leadoff solo home run high in the air and deep to right. It was Sower's third dinger of the season.

Ian Dawkins led the offensive attack with a four-hit night and two runs scored. Lenyn Sosa and Logan Sowers each collected three hits with two RBIs. Sowers extended his league-best on-base streak to 21 games. Gunnar Troutwine added two hits. On the mound, Jack Maynard posted his first professional win. Maynard (1-1) went one inning and gave up one earned run on three hits with one strikeout. Andy Toelken took the loss after three innings of relief for Missoula. Toelken (0-1) gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Bennett Sousa racked up his third save in as many chances. Sousa pitched the final two innings with one strikeout.

Great Falls closes out its two game series at Missoula Sunday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05. After an off-day Monday, the Voyagers start a new seven-game home stand against Orem Tuesday night at Centene Stadium.
