Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
OREM - It was an eventful night at the Home of the Owlz as the Orem Owlz took on the Ogden Raptors on Saturday night. Seven-time Cy Young Award winner, Roger Clemens, came to Orem to throw out the first pitch of the game after putting on a pitching clinic for local fans and Owlz and Raptors pitchers.
In the top of the first inning, facing Jared Ruxer, Ogden drew two walks, which ultimately led to leadoff batter, Logan Landon, later coming around to score for an early 1-0 lead.
Batting leadoff for the Owlz, Kyle Survance Jr., doubled on a hard hit ball to right field, later scoring on a throwing error by Ogden's catcher, Ryan Scott. The Raptors did not help themselves in the bottom of the first as Michael Pierson reached on a fielding error by second baseman, Chris Godinez. Pierson later came around to score, giving the Owlz an early 2-1 lead.
In the top of the second inning, Jeff Malm replaced Jared Ruxer and pitched a gem 1-2-3 inning to hold the Owlz lead.
The Raptors battled back in the bottom of the inning as starter, Jairo Pacheco, mirrored Malm with his own 1-2-3 inning.
The Raptors tied it up in the top of the third inning as Nick Dean homed on a deep ball to center field. That lead didn't last long as the Owlz responded with a run of their own in the home half of the inning.
The Owlz later scored six runs through the eighth inning, brining the score to 9-4 as they entered the top of the ninth. With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Raptors, Scott De Jong, launched a two-run homer to deep center field brining the Raptors within three runs.
However, despite the threat, the Owlz moved to 2-1 on the season after finishing off the Raptors in a 9-6 victory.
The victory and great opening day finished off with a post-game firework show.
The Owlz face the Raptors again tomorrow for the last game of the series at 5:15 P.M.
