VOYAGERS BOUNCE BACK
After losing in walk-off fashion on Thursday and getting washed out on Friday, Great Falls got in the win column in their home opener Saturday, knocking off Helena 12-7. The Voyagers held an early 4-1 lead, but a four-run Brewer fourth erased that advantage and chased starter Evin Einhardt from the contest. Great Falls came back with a run in the fifth to tie it, then had a four-run inning of their own in the sixth to go ahead for good. Walks were a huge catalyst for the offense, as the Voyagers drew nine on the night and three in the sixth frame alone. Grant Massey drew a bases loaded free pass, a run scored on a wild pitch, and Jake Jarvis capped the frame with a two-run single, one of his three knocks on the night. Lucas Shearrow who relieved Einhardt mowed down all seven Brewers he faced to earn the win in relief, and the two clubs traded runs over the last few frames to see Great Falls take their first win of 2015. The victory marked the first of Cole Armstrong's career as a minor league manager, and moved the Voyagers into second place in the early season standings.
MASSIVE DEBUT
Voyager infielder Grant Massey made his professional debut in last night's ball game, and it was a night he won't soon forget, as the Lipscomb product went 2-3 with two runs scored, and three runs batted in. His two-run double in the seventh put the game out of reach, as it put Great Falls in front by five. The 2015 Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year also made several very good plays in the field at shortstop, including starting a 6-4-3 double play in the second inning.
COOL HAND LUCAS Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
With starter Evin Einhardt lasting just 3.2 innings last night, the Voyagers had to go to the bullpen early, but right-hander Lucas Shearrow gave the team a big boost, retiring all seven batters that he faced, and earning the win in relief. Mostly a starter in his first minor league season last year, the Rockford, Ill., native continued the run of strong early performances by the Great Falls relief corps. Through two games, Voyager relievers have allowed just one earned run in 8.2 innings of work, and are striking out more than a batter per inning.
