FOREST CITY, N.C. - Forest City got a single to left field off the bat off Dusty Quattlebaum in the ninth inning to outlast the HiToms 7-6 on Saturday night at McNair Field.

Danny Canela walked to begin the ninth inning off Cole Sturgeon (L, 1-1) and after Cameron Conner came on to pinch run for Canela and scored two hitters later on a single from Quattlebaum to down the HiToms 7-6.

Trailing by a pair of runs at 5-3, Forest City (10-8) came storming back in the fifth inning against Kyle Barbeck as the Owls struck for three runs to turn the game around. Reed Harper, Danny Canela and Craig Manuel all singled to begin the inning. After a Justin Britt drove home a run with a sacrifice fly, Jordan Betts doubled off the wall in left to tie the score. Forest City took the lead on a Michael Basil single after five, the Owls had a 6-5 lead.

Garrett Koster pulled the Tommies even in the top of the eighth with a lead-off solo home run to knot the score at six.

The HiToms (12-7) were able to claim the lead for the first time in the game with three runs in the fifth inning. After a lead-off double from James Harris, Brock Hebert singled him home. Following the single, Tanner Mathis was able to reach ahead of the Jacob Fisher double to plate both runs and give the Tommies a 5-3 advantage.

The Tommies return to Finch Field tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 when they welcome the Forest City Owls to Thomasville for the final time this season.

The HiToms are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season in 2011, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 900 alumni drafted and 45 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
