(Morgantown, WV) - Luis Oviedo struck out 12 West Virginia Black Bears on Thursday night to set a new franchise single game record for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The Scrappers scored three runs in the third and rode the arm of Oviedo to a 5-2 win.
The Scrappers scored all they would need in the top of the third inning. Tre Gantt walked to start the inning and moved to second on Jose Fermin's single. Mahoning Valley added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning. Hosea Nelson's RBI groundout scored Reeves who had reached on a walk. A wild pitch would then bring Perez to the plate to push the score out to 5-1.
