Outlaws Series This Week vs Roadrunners Postponed
August 3, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA. August 3rd, 2010) The Chico Outlaws three-game home series set for this Tuesday through Thursday has been postponed to a later date due to the St George Roadrunners ownership group's inability to meet financial obligations.
Fans holding tickets for this week's games with St George can exchange them for any home date remaining on the Outlaws 2010 schedule (excluding playoff games) by contacting the Outlaws at 345-3210 or going to the Outlaws offices located at 313 Walnut Street, Suite 110 in Chico.
In a press release issued by the Golden Baseball League today, Diamond Sports, the founder of the Golden Baseball League and owner of the Chico and Yuma franchises, will take over daily operations of the team effective today (August 3rd), through a voluntary foreclosure, to provide the ongoing financial and management support to the team to enable it to continue to complete the season as a road team. Efforts are underway to find a new ownership group for the team.
Hot Corner Baseball, led by southern California businessmen Will Joyce, Ed Wong, and Michael Leyva purchased the Roadrunners in the off-season from St. George resident Todd Vowell. Despite keeping the experienced front office in tact and the core of players that led St. George to the second half South Division championship last season, the team struggled on the field and at the gate all year. The group has not filed for bankrutpcy and is working to meet their existing commitments with employees, fans, and business partners in the St. George community.
"We are very disappointed with Hot Corner's inability to complete the season as this is the first time in seven years that we have ever had this situation occur with a franchise owner in-season," said Diamond Sports Chief Executive Officer David Kaval. "We will make sure that the team continues to play out their schedule as a visiting team during August and are working to minimize the impact of this situation on all concerned."
According to Outlaws GM Mike Marshall, no dates have been finalized for the make up of the three postponed games this week between the Outlaws and Roadrunners, but they will be played in Chico later in the season as double-headers. The Roadrunners are scheduled to play a five game series at the Nett August 25-29th and will be played by the traveling team. Additionally, the Outlaws season ending series with the Roadrunners in St George has been moved to Chico's Nettleton Stadium from September 3rd-5th.
The Outlaws just completed a six game road trip through Canada, finishing 5-1 in games at Victoria and Calgary. Chico took two of three games in British Columbia against the Seals and swept the Vipers in Calgary to jump from fourth to second place in the GBL North second-half standings.
Chico opens up a three game series with the defending GBL champion Calgary Vipers this Friday night at Nettleton Stadium. Garret Holleran (6-2, 4.90) goes to the hill looking for his seventh win of the year and the Outlaws try to win their fifth game in a row. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm and tickets are still available. Call 345-3210, visit the office at 313 Walnut Street, Suite 110 or go online to www.chicooutlaws.com to get your seats now. Tickets are also available for the playoffs, set to take place in Chico on September 10th - 12th.
