Flyers' Weekend Road Trip to St. George Scrapped Amid Roadrunners Turmoil

August 3, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

FULLERTON, Calif. (August 3, 2010) -- The Orange County Flyers will not be making their weekend road trip to St. George for four games against the RoadRunners August 6-9. The cancellation comes amid the Golden Baseball League's announcement that the league has taken over financial and management support of the RoadRunners franchise for the organization to complete the season as a road team.

The Flyers, who were only scheduled to face the RoadRunners with four games in St. George for the remainder of the season, will not play again until their road series against the Tijuana Cimarrones at the Ray Kroc Baseball Complex at Yuma, Ariz., on August 11.

According to a Golden Baseball League press release (see below), Hot Corner Baseball, the group that had been running the RoadRunners franchise in 2010, was unable to meet financial obligations for the remaining month of the season. St. George did not make the trip to Chico for this week's schedule series against the Outlaws, but the team is expected to move forward as a travel team that will play all remaining road games on its 2010 schedule.

The Orange County Flyers are off until August 11 when the team kicks off a five-game series against the Tijuana Cimarrones over three days. The teams will play doubleheaders on August 11 and 13 with a single game on August 12. The Flyers return home on Saturday, August 14 to kick off a two week home-stand before the final regular season series of the season in Maui beginning August 30.
