Orange County Flyers News Release

FULLERTON, Calif. (August 3, 2010) - Former National League All-Star Mark Prior pitched a scoreless sixth inning of relief in his Orange County Flyers debut, a 6-0 win over the Victoria Seals in the second game of Tuesday afternoon's doubleheader.

Prior retired the top of the Seals order, including striking out Tim Rodriguez to end the inning, before turning the ball over to closer Andre Simpson. Orange County got a quality start from Jake Renshaw (2-2), who allowed two hits in five innings of work for the win.

Julian Benavidez led the Flyers with three RBI thanks to an infield single in the second inning to open the scoring and a two-run homerun (4), his second of the series, in the bottom of the sixth to bring the game to the 6-0 final.

Orange County knocked around Seals starter former major leaguer Jason Kershner for four runs off six hits in four innings, tagging him with his fifth loss of the season. Mike Koons, who was delt to Victoria from Orange County over the weekend to complete the pre-season trade for Sergio Pedroza, allowed the Benavidez homerun along with a pair of walks in his Seals debut.

The Flyers will not be making their road trip to St. George RoadRunners as that team will operate as a travel-only team through the remainder of the season, according to the GBL. The league announced today that Hot Corner Baseball, the group that ran the RoadRunners, was ceasing team operations, today citing financial reasons, and that the league will provide ongoing financial and management support for the franchise through the remainder of the 2010 season.

The Flyers will next play in Yuma against the Tijuana Cimarrones on August 11 with five games over three days against the last place club.
