Chico Outlaws News Release
Chico, CA - Chico's Garret Holleran fanned a career 11 batters in Saturday's 10-1 win over the St Georeg Roadrunners at Nettleton Stadium, earning him a shaving-cream pie in the face during his post-game interview on the Outlaws Baseball Network.
Holleran (9-2) became the first Chico pitcher to nine wins and third pitcher for the Outlaws to go the complete game distance, scattering five hits and walking three. The right-hander threw 125 pitches on the night, 84 of them for strikes.
St George got its only run of the game in the fourth inning on right fielder Chris Brown's RBI single, one of two hits on the night for Brown.
The Outlaws plated five runs of Roadrunners' starter Chuck Tiffany (1-3), a former second-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers back in 2003, in the fifth inning. Center fielder Blake Gailen walked with one out before Bobby Hill flied out to center for the second out of the frame. Left fielder Mitch Einertson doubled to drive in Gailen, tying the game at one. Mikael Jova came up next and plated Einertson with a single, giving Chico the lead at 2-1.
That's when the fireworks with back-to-back homers started as first baseman John Urick hit his second homerun in as many nights, this time a two-run blast to right field off Tiffany. With the crowd in a frenzy, third baseman Santo DeLeon was the next batter up and he promptly ended Tiffany's night by launching his eighth homerun of the year, giving the Outlaws a 5-1 advantage.
The score went to 6-1 in the seventh on Robby Alcombrack's RBI single.
Chico put up four more runs in the eighth frame. Reliever Jeremy Atkins of St George walked the first two batters of the inning, setting up Gailen's RBI single. Hill followed up with an RBI single of his own, then Einertson laced the third consecutive hit of the inning off Atkins. After Jova hit into a 4-6-3 double-play, Urick came through with an RBI double, putting the Outlaws up 10-1.
Chico is now 19-16 for the second half, while St George fell to 8-23.
The Outlaws continue a seven-game series with the St George Roadrunners with a double header on Sunday. First pitch of game one is set for 5:00pm.
The game will be broadcast live on the Outlaws Baseball Network and fans can catch all the action with Dan Hawkins starting at 4:45 pm. Watch live on www.justin.tv.com/chicooutlawsbaseball or audio only at www.chicooutlaws.com.
