Toros Win 10th Game in a Row by Sweeping Sunday's Doubleheader

The Tucson Toros won both games of their Sunday doubleheader against the Edmonton Capitals, taking the opener 8-1 and winning in walkoff fashion in the nightcap for a 5-4 victory.

The wins were the team's franchise record 9th and 10th in a row, and wrapped up their third straight series sweep over the Tijuana Cimarrones, Yuma Scorpions and now Edmonton Capitals.

In the first game, the Toros offense jumped all over Capitals starter Daryl Arreola, scoring 7 times in the first two innings.

The early lead was fueled by a combined 5 RBI by LF Lino Garcia 1B Cristobal Santana.

All 13 of the Toros hits in the game went for singles and all but 1 run was driven in by a single en route for the 8-1 victory. Meanwhile, Toros starter James Garcia overpowered Edmonton's lineup with 8 strikeouts in the 7 inning complete game outing, allowing just 3 hits and 1 run in the 6th that was unearned.

With his performance Garcia earned his team leading 7th win of the season.

Tucson grabbed the first lead in the second game as well after RBI singles by Garcia in the 1st inning and CF Josh Womack in the 2nd inning put the Toros up 3-0.

Edmonton answered back in the 3rd inning with a 2-run home run by RF Kevin House, his first of the year, to bring the Caps within one.

With the score tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th, 3B Wally Backman Jr. delivered on a 2-2 count for the walk-off RBI linedrive single to rightfield that scored Garcia to give the Toros the 5-4 victory.

The Toros will have Monday off before returning to action at Hi Corbett Field on Tuesday when they will host the St. George Roadrunners beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Toros Teen Tuesday during Tucson's last homestand of the season lasting through Saturday.
