Flyers Finish Off Cimarrones

FULLERTON, Calif. - Julian Benavidez blasted two homeruns to lead the Orange County past the Tijuana Cimarrones in the final regular-season home game at Goodwin Field in 2010. Orange County will face Maui in Game 3 in Fullerton in the best-of-five South Division Series tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 10.

Benavidez broke a 4-4 tie with a solo homerun (12), his second of the game to lead off the third inning. David Harris followed with a double and scored two batters later on a squeeze bunt by Eric Pringle to give the Flyers a 6-4 lead.

Tijuana struck early with a four-run first inning. Michael Corolla reached on an error before singles by Zach Starkey and Joannes Ochoa loaded the bases. Two batters later, Ivan Villaescusa's bases-clearing double put Tijuana on the board first. Chris Luick singled to score Villaescusa for a 4-0 advantage.

The Flyers returned fire in the bottom of the inning. Julian Benavidez followed singles by Steve Boggs and Jimmy Rohan with a three-run homerun, closing the Tijuana lead to 4-3. In the second inning, Eric Pringle doubled to lead off the inning and eventually crossed the plate on a passed ball to tie the game, 4-4.

Kevin Altman (7-4) earned the win for Orange County, shaking off a rough first inning to allow no runs and two hits from the second through fifth innings. Jake Renshaw and Andre Simpson eached threw scoreless relief innings. Tijuana's Brian Chaput took the loss.

The Flyers are off Sunday before traveling to Maui on Monday to begin a seven-game series starting on Tuesday, August 31 at 9:35pm Pacific Time at Iron Maehara Stadium. The games will be broadcast online through Live365 at www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com.
