Chico Outlaws News Release
CHICO- The Outlaws took on the Fielders Friday night looking to continue their first three game winning streak of the year. Despite the Outlaws' bats exploding for seven runs, tonight's game was all about Chico starter David Roberts (1-3). Roberts had his longest outing of the year, throwing seven shutout innings while striking out eight Fielders while picking up his first win of the season in the Outlaws 7-0 victory.
The Outlaws would be the first to put a crooked number on the scoreboard Friday night. Back to back singles by Jay Pecci and Bobby Hill would start the game for the Outlaws. Clean-up hitter Chris Lubaanksi soon drove in Pecci with a single of his own. Chico would add another run on a fielder's choice that scored Hill from third to put the Outlaws on top 2-0.
Chico would add another runs in the third inning. With two already gone, Lubanski hit another single and took advantage of a bobble in right field to land himself on second base. He would come home a batter later on an Adam Buschini single to increase the lead to 3-0.
The game got out of hand quickly in the next inning. The inning started off normal enough with the Outlaws picking up a run on a sac fly by Pecci. However, the Fielders would fall victim to baseball's most exciting play, the inside-the-park homerun. With runners on first and second, Jake Rife hit a shot down the line, just over the bag at first. The ball found its way deep in the right field corner and with Rife on his horse, he easily rounded the bases without a throw to put the Outlaws up seven.
The Outlaws now look forward to tomorrow as they will try to complete the sweep of their division foe the Lake County Fielders. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. and Demetrius Banks (2-3) will take the mound for the Outlaws.
