Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals came up just short of completing a Canada Day Series sweep over Maui Na Koa Ikaika, dropping the fifth and final game 8-7 on Saturday night at TELUS Field. The Caps fall to 22-13 on the season but remain in first place in the North American League.

The Caps had their four-game winning streak snapped with Saturday's slim loss in front of a crowd of 2,510, bringing the four-day attendance total for the Canada Day Series presented by Mott's to 11,771. Left fielder Todd Linden led the way for Edmonton in the loss, hitting three doubles and scoring three runs.

Right fielder Tom Collaro and Nick Valdez each drove in a pair of runs, while Valdez, shortstop Enrique Cruz and first baseman Brent Metheny each also recorded multi-hit nights. Tom Boleska took the loss for the Caps, giving up the eventual winning run in the seventh, while fellow reliever Clayton Uyechi earned the win for Na Koa Ikaika, with Mike Koons recording the save.

The Caps welcomed Edmonton Oilers 2011 first-overall draft pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to Saturday's game to throw the ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs for the first 400 fans through the gates. Nugent-Hopkins signed his entry-level contract with the Oilers at the ballpark prior to the Caps game.

After playing their last nine games in Edmonton, the Caps now head out on the road for 12 contests, July 3-10 in Chico against the Outlaws and July 12-14 in Calgary versus the provincial rival Vipers. The Caps return to TELUS Field to host the Vipers and continue the battle of Alberta July 15-17.

The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
