EVANSVILLE, IN â Frank Scott scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Evansville Otters ended the first half of the season on a winning note, topping the Chillicothe Paints 5-4.
Evansville jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings and were cruising until there were two outs in the top of the seventh. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, when Beau Blacken uncorked a grand slam over the left field wall to tie the game at four.
Evansville loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth. With David Trujillo at the plate, Chillicothe brought in Blacken from left field to play a five man infield defense. Trujillo lined the ball right to Blacken who threw it low to home plate, allowing Scott to score the winning run.
The Otters now have three days off for the Frontier League all-star break. The Otters send five players to the game as Terrence McClain, Sean Flynn, Jeremy Lewis, Grant Williams, and Amad Stephens represent the east squad. Evansville ends the first half in a first place tie with the Washington Wild Things in the standings.
The Otters return to action Friday playing a three-game set at Florence.
