Windy City ThunderBolts News Release

In the final game before the All-Star break, the Windy City Thunderbolts dropped a tough game to the Mid-Missouri Mavericks, losing by a score of 16-4. The ThunderBolts only mustered 4 runs on 8 hits, while surrendering 16 runs, 12 hits, and 10 walks. ThunderBolts starting pitcher Felix Matta started out strong, but ran into trouble in the top of the fourth inning, receiving his first loss of the season, giving up 8 runs (7 earned), 7 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 2 in 3 1/3 innings.

Mavericks starting pitcher Dan Shuck had a strong outing, pitching 5 innings and limiting the ThunderBolts to 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 7 and earning his first win of the season. ThunderBolts fans received a bit of a scare in the bottom of the seventh inning, home-plate umpire John Argus had an asthma attack and the game was delayed forty-five minutes while Mr. Argus was attended to by trainers and paramedics. Mr. Argus wanted to stay for the rest of the game, so after being stabilized he sat out the rest of the game in the Mavericks dugout while base umpire Tom Sowboda finished off the game by himself.

The ThunderBolts take a three-day break for the All-Star game and Home-Run derby that will occur in O'Fallon, Missouri at the River City Rascals' T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The ThunderBolts play a three-game series against the Rockford Riverhawks starting Friday, and return Monday to play a three-game series against the River City Rascals. Official attendance for tonight's game was 1,790.
