EVANSVILLE, IN â The New York Yankees have purchased the contract of Amad Stephens from the Evansville Otters, it was announced Monday afternoon. Stephens is the second Otters' all-star to be signed (Cole Hilt â Kansas City Royals) before the Frontier League's showcase game
Stephens has been the Otters closer over the past one-and-a-half seasons ammassing a 10-1 record with a team record 25 saves. Over 80.1 innings he compiled an ERA of 2.35 and struck out 102 batters in that time walking just 16.
This season, Stephens had been even better than the previous season, going 4-0 with 14 saves and an ERA of 1.44. He notched his 14th save of the year on Friday night at Washington. That was the 25th save of his Otters' career, breaking the record previously held by Kyle May. He currently stands 3rd on the Frontier League all-time saves list.
Stephens will be assigned to the Tampa Yankees of the Florida State League (High A-ball). He will join Tampa tomrrow as they travel to take on the St. Lucie Mets.
