Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters acquired infielder Jon Dziomba from the San Angelo Colts of the United League on Monday for future considerations.
Dziomba won the United League Batting Title in 2013 with a .354 average, more than 14 points above his nearest competitor. The Buffalo, New York native also led the United League with 116 hits, 24 doubles, and 328 at-bats.
"We are happy to get Jo via trade," said Otters manager Andy McCauley. "He should be in the top of our lineup and be a versatile defender somewhere in the infield. I'd like to thank Doc Edwards for helping bring Jon to the Otters."
Dziomba set career highs in batting average, hits, runs, home runs, and runs batted in all for San Angelo last year.
The 5'10" infielder previously played at Mercyhurst College (Erie, PA) before beginning his minor league baseball career in 2009 with the Grand Prairie AirHogs of the American Association.
The Otters start the 2014 season on the road at the Normal CornBelters on May 16. Otters Opening Day will take place on Wednesday, May 21st at historic Bosse Field with a unique doubleheader against the Rockford Aviators. First pitch will take place at 5:35 pm CT.
Businesses interested in participating with the Otters through advertising, group outings, or season tickets should call the Otters front office at (812) 435-8686.
The Otters also offer paid internships to college students as well. The internships are available in the concessions and group outings fields. Expected start date is May 1, 2014. Those interested can email their cover letter and resume to ottersbb@evansville.net .
