DJ Johnson Rejoins Beach Bums

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce the return of one of D. J. Johnson to the Beach Bums roster. Johnson previously pitched for Traverse City in 2011, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.54 ERA in 14 games before the Arizona Diamondbacks signed him.

He finished the 2011 season with the Missoula Osprey (Pioneer - Rookie) going 1-0 with 10 saves and a 2.08 ERA in 20 games, striking out 32 batters in 26.0 innings. He followed that up by going 4-7 with a 4.66 ERA in 42 games combined between the South Bend SilverHawks (Midwest - A) and the Visalia Oaks (California - A+). With South Bend, he went 2-4 with a 3.08 ERA and whiffed 32 in 26.1 IP. In his four pro seasons, Johnson has struck out 126 batters in 119.2 innings, an average of 9.48K/9IP.

Johnson started his career in 2010 as an undrafted free agent with the Gulf Coast Rays (GCL - Rookie) following his senior season at Western Oregon University.

The Traverse City Beach Bums are members of the Frontier League an independent baseball league with teams in seven Midwest states. The Beach Bums are entering their ninth season of play in 2014. Season tickets are now on sale. The Beach Bums will be playing their season opener at Wuerfel Park on a FANtastic Fireworks Friday, May 23.
