Richmond Roosters News Release

Evansville, Indiana - The Roosters lost to the Evansville Otters 5-3 on Saturday night. Richmond scored first, but fell behind after two innings and never recovered. A late rally fell short and the Roosters dropped the rubber match of the series.

The Roosters got things started in the top of the second inning when Tony Sanguinetti hit his 13th home run over the right field fence to give Richmond a 1-0 lead. Sanguinetti pulled even atop of the Frontier League homerun leaders. The Otters came back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Rickey Clinton had a 2 RBI hit to take the lead away from Richmond and Frank Scott had a RBI single for Evansville to make it 3-1.

The Otters added a couple of insurance runs in the latter part of the game. Trask Munoz scored on a suicide squeeze from Denver Stuckey in the sixth and Steve Martin scored on a RBI double from Scott Ward in the seventh to increase Evansville's lead to 5-1. Richmond tried to rally in the eighth, scoring a couple of runs on a hit to left field from Josh Hollingsworth. Hector Urena scored from second on the play and Mike Reese scored as well when the ball got past the left fielder cutting the deficit to 5-3. The Roosters were retired in order in the ninth, however, and lost the final game of the series. Matt Schweitzer (1-3) took the loss while Cody Blackard (1-0) earned is first professional win.

Richmond (16-20) will begin a home series against the Chillicothe Paints (18-18) on Sunday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana Time). Tony Casoli (5-1, 2.54 ERA) will get the start for the Roosters. It will also be Fireworks Night at McBride Stadium. An extensive fireworks display will begin shortly after the conclusion of the game.
